Ce mois-ci, c'est le label Seayou Records (Autriche) qui est à l'honneur, ainsi que ses artistes.

Interview de ILIAS DAHIMENE, fondateur du label Seayou Records

Seayou Records was founded 2006 by Ilias Dahimène in Vienna/Austria. The initial aim of the label was to be a supporter of the very active scene in Vienna at that time but soon also
international artists got put on on the roster. Seayou became a proper business in 2009 and now has three seperated branches under the roof of SEAYOU ENTERTAINMENT. The
record label of course, currently releasing six to seven albums per year, but also a booking and event agency (that organises and handles 300+ shows/tours/events per year) as well as a
publishing branch.

The main goal for Seayou is to support and build up selected artists of all musical genres and give them a chance to gain economical and artistic benefits. Seayou is a true full service agency for artists that offers individual solutions for our artists needs and is able to handle all tasks one faces while pursuing a career as a musician. The work of Seayou gained good feedback in worldwide music expert circles and resulted in multiple press coverage, cooperations and most importnantly new friendships. Seayou gained a top notch international network in just two years including worldwide distribution, agency cooperations and licencing partners. Seayou is one of the main supporters of the local vienna music scene as a host of multiple events, free counseling services and providing their network for artists we think deserve international attention.
Ilias Dahimène the founder and owner of SEAYOU ENTERTAINMENT was born in 1979, he was highly active in the 90ies Punk/Hardcore/Skateboard subcultures and he became an
active musician and booking agent in his early teens booking his first european tour at the age of 16 and playing more than 700 shows all over Europe himself.
He started promoting shows in 1998, the record label in 2006 and his publishing company in 2010.

Holiday for String

Holiday for Strings is the name of an old show tune from the 1930's that was composed by David Rose. It's probably one of the most upbeat songs ever written. When the band Holiday for Strings named themselves after the tune, they had never actually heard it.

The band is made up of five Swedish guys, of which three are former professional chefs. The other two are John from Peter, Bjorn and John, and Pony, from the group Thieves Like Us.

The group's music is a subtle mixture- post rock, kraut rock, pop, disco, and dub music all turn up in their experimental recipes. The band has existed on and off for about five years, slowly perfecting its unique musical blend.

Their first full-length release was titled CD and came out in 2006 on Stilll recordings. It's a post rocking, groove based album that earned them an opening slot on the 2007 European tour with Peter, Bjorn and John. The album was described by the music magazine Wire as "an unholy alliance between The Monochrome Set and the B52's."

In 2008 they recorded a 3 song EP, Two of You, released as a double 7" on Kanine Records NYC (Chairlift, Holy Hail, the Whip, etc). The title track was remixed by The Toxic Avenger, and Holiday for Strings toured the UK.

Their new album, Favorite Flavor, due out in Europe in March 2010, is released by Sea You records (Paper bird, Thieves Like Us, Japanther, etc), and was recorded at the imperial Murlyn studios, just outside of Stockholm, a wooden mansion built in the 1600's which was originally the king's summertime and love get-away.

The band will be touring the major cities of Europe in April and May, 2010, so prepare yourself for their unique performance, involving strawberries, chocolate fondues, and various wild animals.

Paper Bird

Paper Bird is Anna Kohlweis, born in nineteen-eighty-four, who writes, records and designs her work as a one-person-band in the same four walls she lives in, surrounded by the books, movies, records and pictures that build the frame for the sound that has been emerging from her homebase in Vienna since 2005. Having released two albums that clearly show some sort of personal evolution in terms of encoding traditional songwriting, a third record, interweaved with rythms made from field recordings, intimate cryptic storytelling and multilayered vocals, will be released in autumn of 2009.

It’s the geography of the brain that makes these songs, the labyrinths we build to live in, the manipulation of our bodies and minds through other bodies and minds, the bloody wars against ourselves and the roles we’re expected to play, the ghosts of the past that haunt our houses, the sound of drumsticks on a kitchen table.
The Bird likes to invite a certain intimacy to her shows, where songs are stripped down to their basic elements or sung along to samples.

Having had words,in the form of poetry and short stories as her first form of expression long before music, the lyrics are the heart of Paper Bird’s songs.

The Terrordactyls

THE TERRORDACTYLS are quite well-rounded individuals. Michaels interests include fabricating truths on job applications, multiple choice questions and running away. Tyrel enjoys guns, organizing his iTunes music library and being good at life. During the brief periods that Michael and Tyrel are away from the gym, they also enjoy watching inspirational sports films and talking about their abs.

On their self-titled album, THE TERRORDACTYLS quirky, lighthearted yet decidedly melancholic pop/anti-folk tunes are augmented by toy pianos, kazoos, and the voice of KIMYA DAWSON (The Moldy Peaches, Juno). Despite all these charming trappings, though, nothing really serves to take the edge off The Terrordactyls gutsy interpretation of the sad sweetness (or sweet sadness) of living. Armed with a new kazoo sponsorship by Kazoobie Kazoos, the band is currently finishing up their second full national tour and putting the finishing touches on their second full length album.

Sir Tralala

started a classical music-education including playing the violin at the age of 7, got infected with rock`n`roll music, first serious studio experiences plus „rockband in front of audience“ experiences at Pubs, Bars and Biker-Meetings at an age of 14, played Violin, Guitar, Bass and did the Vocals in different bands until moving to Vienna at an age of 19.

became part of a consuming Viennese Club-Culture and started to homerecord his own songs.

started to develop his own special electronically designed sound and composition techniques and to work for different music and multimedia art projects.

science at the experimental-electronic department at the university of performing arts and music Vienna

developed the character and stage identity Sir Tralala who messed up the local avandgarde scene and part of the european underground with his unique style of experimental electronic popmusic.

with his first album „Flying Objects they don`t have a Brain...“ (Niesom, 2005) he reached regular radio-stations and did gain attention of the so called mainstream-press (got voted „one of the 3 you must hear austrian music-productions 2005“, Der Standard).

his performances used to be described as anarchistic, weird and polarizing but it did calm down in the last years.

during the work on his new album „Escaping Dystopia“ (Seayou Records, 2009) Sir Tralala changed his style into a less psychedelic one and although the electronical sounddesign plays an important part, he did use more common instruments on it.
on this album, common songwriting and classical arrangement styles are outranking the club-track way of making music. you can even hear Influences of GlamRock, Soul, Hip-Hop and the Beatles and sometimes people associate it with scores for big Hollywood Movies.

beside his Sir Tralala Identity, the artist spends his time as musician and supporter for other people`s projects (live + on several records), tours around europe, writes, works as music and musicvideo producer, DJ and runs his own club evenings where he promotes the bands he likes.
